Kookaburra Kids Overview

Kookaburra Kids’
‘Discover the Theatre’ program is for students whose life experience has been limited by opportunity and circumstance, and who may never have been to the theatre before. Kookaburra Kids' makes it possible for these students to see a musical theatre production and tour behind the scenes.

Kookaburra Kids’
‘Musical Theatre Workshops’ are for young
people who already have a love of musical theatre. The workshops
are a wonderful opportunity to learn more about performing,
technical production, lighting, direction, design, orchestra, sound
and composition. The workshops are specifically designed around
a particular experience – a visit to a professional production or a
specific workshop focus like the 'Audition Tuition'.

Backstage tour of Company (August 2007): 8 Kookaburra Kids participated in this 2 night event – including a backstage tour, meet and greet cast and crew, and the opportunity to sit in the Orchestra pit during the show.

Hatpin Workshop:
30 young people spent a Sunday at The
Seymour Centre listening to the background to the show, the
creative process and Q & A session with the cast. They learnt
a song from the show with the composer and saw Peter Cousens perform a live excerpt from the show- singing to one of the
Kookaburra Kids. This was followed by a visit to a performance
the following week.

Hatpin Performance: as part of our affiliation with St Andrews Cathedral School – over 50 students and several staff members attended a performance of the Hatpin and had the opportunity to
meet and greet the cast and creative’s afterwards.

Kookaburra Kids would like to thank the producers, venues, sponsors and organisations that help conduct Kookaburra Kids groups, and make these workshops possible.
